The Alander

The Alander is a modern boutique lodge at the foothills of the Berkshires in beautiful Columbia County, NY. Owners Jason Seiler and Reid Kendall have carefully and thoughtfully transformed what used to be an economy roadside motel into an updated boutique lodge perfectly situated in the idyllic countryside where the Berkshires meet the Hudson Valley. The Alander features 12 guest rooms, a full restaurant and bar, multiple outdoor fire pits to relax by after a day of exploring, as well as many new amenity announcements coming soon for 2025. The aesthetic blends a relaxed cabin feel with modern design and amenities. Guests can experience the peaceful quiet of the outdoors while having everything the region offers at their doorstep.

The Owners Story

Jason and Reid are Midwest-born and raised, longtime veterans of the travel and hospitality industries. Jason has enjoyed a long career in the airline industry, logging over 20 years and countless destinations both domestically and around the world. He has an eye for design and has taken the lead on the overall look and style of the lodge. Reid comes from a background in restaurants and hotels, serving as director and general manager for numerous food and beverage operations in top boutique hotels in New York City and Seattle.

After 15 years together, Jason and Reid finally decided to make their dream of owning and operating a lodge of their own a reality. After visiting and falling in love with Columbia County for many years, the perfect little property became available. It needed some love, but the bones were good, and the location was perfect. They purchased the roadside economy motel (formally known as Johanna’s) in May of 2021 and quickly got to work to transform it into a relaxing destination fit for longer stays near the abundant natural and recreational attractions of this beautiful region.

This passion project of theirs offers them the opportunity to bring together not only their expertise in the hospitality industry, but also their love of creation, design, and the art of travel and leisure. They are insatiable foodies and have traveled to over 30 countries, eating their way through 5 continents together. They are also the adoring humans of a Brussels Griffon, Presley. They’re very knowledgeable of the area and eager to point you in the right direction. Above all, they love meeting new people and creating memorable experiences for their guests. They can’t wait to welcome you!
